ALA recognizes two Delaware Respiratory Therapist for their volunteer work

This week we honor the work of two volunteers and a partner organization of the ALA of the Mid-Atlantic: John Rendle, Bob Donnelly and the Delaware Society of Respiratory Care.

The DSRC is consistently engaged in fundraising activities and educational programs that highlight and promote the American Lung Association. John and Bob are often spearheading these events.

Asthma Camp

The DSRC works closely with the American Lung Association of Delaware in coordinating and running of Asthma Camps throughout the state of Delaware. These camps are 7-12 year olds with a diagnosis of asthma. Parents feel comfortable leaving there kids at these camps due to fact that staff is mostly health care providers. Nurses and Respiratory Therapists provide the supervision of the kids and are there to treat the kids if necessary. The camps are fun and educational. The goal is for the kids to leave the camp talking about the great time they had and empowered to manage their asthma with the help of their parents.

It takes a lot of money to run the 3-4 Asthma Camps each year. The DSRC helps with the cause by coordinating a fundraising event called Guest Bartender Night (See our site for details about this year's event) which is held at the Logan House in Wilmington, DE.

It is a great night of fun and fundraising. Local professionals even try their hand at bartending.

Money is raised in many ways; tickets sales, tips, and sponsorships as well as a silent auction. We raised almost $20,000  last year.

Asthma Camp 2011 Update: The DSRC has donated $25,293.00 to the American Lung Association for asthma camps in 2011!

Thanks to all who donated to this great cause!

The 5th Annual DSRC 2010 Golf Outing

This years event took place at Jonathan's Landing in Magnolia Delaware on June 4, 2010. We had a low turn out this year well below are 70-80 golfers that we have averaged the past four or so years.

All in all, we had a great golfing day on a fabulous course. Everyone had a blast and some more then others. We also received a very generous donation from the owners of Jonathan's Landing Golf Course that was donated to Asthma Camp.

Dana Oakes books given to respiratory care students across the state

One of the DSRC efforts to reach out and support the respiratory care community this year involved all of the respiratory students in the state of Delaware.  The DSRC purchased the "Blue" Dana Oakes respiratory books and gave them as a gift to all respiratory students in the state.  The students and faculty were all very appreciative of the gift.  It was a pleasure to present these gifts to the future RRT's in Delaware.
